Therapy for Asian Americans

As a 2nd-generation Korean American therapist, I am particularly passionate about mental health among the Asian Pacific Islander South Asian American (APISA) community. For many Asian Americans seeking therapy is full of stigma and shame, and research shows that Asian Americans are 3 times less likely to seek help than their white counterparts. I’ve heard far too many accounts of APISA clients experiencing invalidation, microaggressions, and judgment in culturally insensitive therapy spaces.

With hopes to de-stigmatize mental health and therapy, my co-founders, Samantha Waldman and Diana Liao, and I launched Bridges Mental Health, a resource for Asian Americans to seek culturally-responsive mental health care.

At the core of Bridges is the Therapist Directory featuring NYC-based clinicians who provide competent and affirming therapy for APISA clients, as well as an active Clinician Community for Asian American mental health professionals. In addition, Bridges amplifies the voices of clinicians and community members through our podcast Beyond the Couch, and facilitates community through events and resources.
