Premarital Counseling

PREMARITAL COUNSELING

For engaged couples, or those considering longterm commitment, premarital counseling can be essential in establishing a solid foundation for the future. In fact, research shows that quality premarital counseling can reduce the risk of divorce by 31%. Couples who complete premarital counseling were found to feel more satisfied and committed in their marriage, and experience less conflict.

As a trained PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator, I work with couples at critical transitions in their lives to assess strength and growth areas and foster productive communication. In our work together, we can utilize the PREPARE/ENRICH assessment to provide personalized insights into your dynamic, illuminate important areas of growth, and cultivate skills to help your relationship thrive. I also bring my EFT approach into every session, which deepens the therapeutic work and helps create emotional safety and meaningful change.

What is Prepare/Enrich?

PREPARE/ENRICH is one of the most widely used couple assessment programs. It is the global standard — the #1 premarital and marriage assessment used for over 35 years. It is an online assessment tool for couples at all stages who want to better understand and improve their relationship. As one of the most widely used relationship assessments, PREPARE/ENRICH offers an evolving, research-backed structure to explore and deepen connections. The inventory illuminates fundamental aspects of partnership including personality differences, culture, communication, family of origin issues, money and finances, personal and family goals. This assessment provides language and clarity, which I use to support my emotion-focused work with couples. Learn more about PREPARE/ENRICH.

What can I expect in premarital counseling?

We’ll first meet for an intake session to get to know each other and learn more about your relationship. From there, I’ll provide links for you to complete your online assessment on your own time. It can take 30-45 minutes to complete your portion of the assessment, and you can pause at anytime. In our subsequent sessions, I’ll provide insightful feedback on your assessment results, explore important questions, and facilitate exercises to promote communication. I recommend at least 6-8 sessions to get the full benefit of the assessment and feedback.

Is Prepare/Enrich only for couples who are struggling?

Nope! PREPARE/ENRICH can be used for couples at any stage in their relationship. The assessment and insights can be helpful when considering longterm commitment and/or engagement, and exploring what partnership means for you.

How long are sessions, and what are the fees?

Couples sessions can range from 60-70 minutes, depending on your preferences and scheduling. The PREPARE/ENRICH assessment is an additional one-time fee of $35.
